A Message from the Director of Athletics

Dan Driscoll

This is an exciting time in Berkshire School’s athletic history: We have recent New England and League championships, alumni playing in college at all levels, the new the Tom Young Baseball Field, the recent reconstruction of Stewart Soccer Pitch, a new softball field, and debut last year of the Jackman L. Stewart Athletic Center that includes two hockey rinks, locker rooms, athletic training facilities, and a fitness center. But despite these accomplishments, the heart of the Berkshire School athletic program is still the student-athlete.

Berkshire School supports a rigorous athletic development program that teaches mental and physical self discipline, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to deal with adversity. We believe that all Berkshire students should have the opportunity to participate as members of well-coached, competitive teams, and we are committed to providing quality coaching at all levels of interscholastic athletics.

We support and uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship and fair play, exemplified by our faculty coaches. The interaction between the athletes and coaches is a key element not only of our athletic program, but our overall philosophy of education as well. All students participate in athletics in their time here, for it is our belief that the lessons learned in the various playing arenas are lessons easily applied to the world around us, an echo of our school motto, Pro Vita Non Pro Schola Discimus, "We learn not just for school, but for life."    --Dan Driscoll
